Australian scientists have confirmed the discovery of one of the largest dinosaur species ever in Eromanga, outback Queensland.
Formally named Australotitan cooperensis meaning "the southern titan" the plant-eating sauropod lived between 92 million and 96 million years ago, when Australia was attached to Antarctica, according to a research paper published on Monday (June 7).
Paleontologists estimated the dinosaur was as long as a basketball court and as tall as a two-storey building, making it the largest dinosaur ever found in Australia, also placing it among the top five largest dinosaurs in the world.
Bones of the dinosaur were first uncovered more than a decade ago by cattle farmers, after younger soil had been gradually weathered away.
